Among
other shocking stories, a 28-year-old man was allegedly burnt to death by his
wife at Chak Saidoke village in Fazilka district of Punjab. The victim,
identified as one Gursewak Singh suffered severe 75% burning and succumbed to
his injuries on May 24, 2020.
However, the accused woman, Sukhmanpreet
Kaur alias Veerpal Kaur managed to escape from the spot soon after committing
the crime. According to the police, the accused Veerpal Kaur allegedly poured
oil on Gursewak Singh and burnt him alive. Although the victim was rushed to
the nearest hospital soon after the incident, he died the very next day.
The victim’s family members and other
relatives have however demanded quick action against the culprit. They also
refused to cremate his body and protested by blocking the Jalalabad-Muktsar
Road.
In a written complaint to the concerned
police, the deceased’s brother, Gurvinder Singh, has said his brother had
married Sukhmanpreet Kaur 10 years ago and the couple has a son and daughter.
The couple, according to the family members, had a strained relationship and
would indulge in verbal duels on petty domestic issues. Aamir Khas Police has
booked Veerpal Kaur under Section 302 of IPC.
On other hands, the deceased’s family has
alleged that the police were not taking appropriate action against the culprit.
