US Republican congressman Ron Wright, who was tested positive for COVID-19 last month, died, his congressional office said on Monday.
The Texas lawmaker passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Feb 7 (Sunday). His wife Susan was by his side and he is now in the presence of their Lord and Savior, his office said in a statement.
He is the first sitting member of Congress who died due to coronavirus. In December, Congressman-elect Luke Letlow had died due to COVID complications. He was 41.
On January 21, Wright announced that he was tested positive for the virus.
Subsequently, Wright and his wife were admitted to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Wright had also battled cancer.
