Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader and former minister Kamatham Ram Reddy died today after prolonged illness.

He was 83 and suffering from old age related diseases. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and leaders of other political parties have mourned the demise of the former minister.

In his condolence message, Mr. Rao recalled his relationship with Mr. Reddy and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. Mr. Reddy was initially associated with the Congress and was one of the important leaders of the Congress. He won thrice on Pargi assembly seat in Andhra Pradesh. He won the first independent in 1967 and the assembly elections in 1972 and 1989 with a Congress ticket.

The TRS leader was also elected as a member of the Legislative Council in the year 1980 and served as minister in the Jalagam Vengal Rao government of 1977, Neduramalli Janardhan Reddy in the year 1991 and Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy in the year 1992. Mr. Reddy joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after not getting a ticket from the Congress in the 2014 elections. He stood third in the election with 13,355 votes standing for the BJP. He joined TRS in the year 2018.
