The Wayanad district administration have intensified measures to contain people within their homes, the elderly ones in particular due to COVID-19 pandemic.

A Case will be registered against the family of elderly people for letting them go out for purchasing essential commodities.

Those senior citizens who are living alone can call the police or fire to get assistance.

Inspection at border check posts will also be intensified so as to ensure implementation of lockdown protocol in letter and spirit.

The tightening of measures has been in the light of a controversy over the crossing over of a teacher from Thiruvananthapruam to Karnataka with the help of few officials of the State Excise Department on Wednesday.

District Collector Dr Adhila Abdulla has ordered strict vigilance at district and state borders to restrict people’s movement.

Checking at all district and state borders will be intensified and frequent travel to and fro will not be allowed.

Apart from police and excise, the officials of the motor vehicle department will also be on guard at these check posts to ensure strict ban on movement of vehicles across the district.
