Markaz building cleared, 2361 evacuated, 671 hospitalised

The Tabligh-e-Jamaat's Markaz in Nizamuddin West has been completely cleared with the evacuation of 2,361 people who had gathered for the congregation, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday.


The Markaz building was cleared by 0400 hrs this morning after a 36-hour joint operation by multiple agencies, he said.


The medical staff, Delhi Transport Corporation, Police and other agencies conducted this operation despite the life risk involved he said, and commended their efforts.


Taking to twitter, the Deputy CM said, 'The medical staff, DTC staff, police and administration worked together putting their life at risk , a hearty salute to them'.


Out of the 2,361 people evacuated , 671 have been shifted to hospitals for testing as they were symptomatic,


while the rest have been quarabtined, he said.


Meanwhile, on Tuesday Delhi police had registered a case against the Maulana and others of the Markaz for violating the government directions with reference to the restrictions on holding gatherings in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.


So far, the covid-19 positive cases in Delhi have touched 120, of which 24 are those who were at the Markaz.
