Former
AICC President and the senior Congress Party leader, Rahul Gandhi, has on
Saturday questioned Prime Minister,
Narendra Modi, over his claim that the 750 megawatt (MW) Rewa Ultra Mega
Solar Power project in Madhya Pradesh is Asia’s largest.
In a tweet, which he tagged a post from
the Twitter handle of the PMO, describing Rewa power project as Asia's biggest
power project, the Congress leader termed as – Asatyagrahi, a person practicing
the policy of untruth.
Noticeably, PM Modi had on Friday
dedicated the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project, which the government has
also said will reduce emission equivalent to approximately 15 lakh tonne of
carbon dioxide every year, to the nation through video conferencing. After the
event, A PMO’s Twitter handle said in Hindi, “PM Modi is dedicating Rewa Ultra
Mega Solar Power project to the Nation”. Earlier, Karnataka Congress chief DK
Shivakumar had sought clarification from the Union power minister over the
government’s claim, saying that a 2,000 MW solar plant already exists in
Pavagada of Karnataka’s Tumakuru district. Shivkumar said in a tweet, “Union
Power Minister must answer as to how the Central government can claim that the
Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the
Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2,000 MW) and was opened two years
back”.
In another post he said, “The unique
thing about the 2000 MW Pavagada Mega Solar Park was that not a single acre of
land was acquired from the farmers. All 13,000 acres have been leased from the
farmers who are being given yearly rent. Karnataka model of Renewable Energy
was accepted as the best in India”.
