The Mumbai-Golden Temple Express train reached Amritsar via Taran Taran on Tuesday after the end of the agitation by the rail roko movement in Punjab in protest against the three agricultural laws passed by the central government.
In the meeting held by the Chief Minister of Punjab with the farmers, all the farmer organizations had agreed to end the rail roko movement, but the movement by an organization Kisan Mazdoor Union continues unchanged.
District Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira tried to persuade the members of the Kisan Mazdoor Union sitting at the Jandiala Guru railway station on Monday night but the train was stopped at Vyas railway station due to non-acceptance of the farmers. Buses were arranged by the district administration to transport the railway passengers to the destination but railway officials agreed to send the train to Amritsar via Tarn Taran. After this, the Golden Temple Express departed for Barasta Tarn Taran Amritsar which reached Amritsar at around quarter to nine. Apart from tea-biscuits for the passengers, buses were also arranged by the district administration to drop them to their homes.
Talking to journalists at the railway station, the passengers mentioned their problems and said that we support the demands of the farmers, but it is not permissible to harass the people by stopping the railways. Many masafirs argued that the farmers' fight was with the central government and not with the Punjab government. Therefore, the farmers should struggle instead of going to Punjab instead of Delhi. So that the people of Punjab and the state do not suffer financial loss.
