With the detection of 18,327 new coronavirus cases, the total number of infections in the country has reached 11,192,088, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.


The death toll from the disease has reached 157,656 people, with 108 new fatalities being recorded over the past day. More than 10.85 million people have recovered in India since the start of the outbreak, while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.41 per cent.\\\\


The country has recorded 14,234 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,08,54,128, the national COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 96.98 per cent, as per the health ministry update.


India comes second in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States, with more than 28.88 million COVID-19 patients.


The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11. To date, more than 116.04 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 2.57 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
