BJP's Sambit Patra booked for "defaming" tweet against Congress

BJP national spokesman Sambit Patra has been booked for purportedly tweeting a slandering post against the Congress as well as defaming its' yesteryear leaders, police said on Tuesday.


Quoting the complaint filed by the Indian Youth Congress State General Secretary Brijkishore Dutt, the police told that Mr Patra tweeted that if the COVID-19 crisis would have occurred during the Congress rule, there would have been staggering embezzlement of funds.


"Had this pandemic happened during the Congress rule, there would have been a misappropriation to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore mask, Rs 7,000 crore Corona Test kit, Rs 20,000 crore sanitizer, Rs 26,000 crore Rajiv Gandhi Virus Research," tweet read.


Mr Patra also posted the pictures of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi for defaming them as well as the party, Mr Dutt asserted in his complaint.


Police spokeswoman Sukhada Narkar stated that offence against him has been registered under the IPC section 500 (punishment for defamation) with the MFC Police Station in Kalyan suburb.
