Air and Road traffic were adversely affected due to Heavy fog in the northwest region

Due to dense fog prevailing at most places in the northwest region in the last twenty four hours, air, Rayleigh and road traffic were adversely affected and similar weather is likely to continue tomorrow.

The Meteorological Center has predicted dense fog, cold day and cold wave on 17 -18 December in Haryana and Punjab in the next forty-eight hours. In the last twenty-four hours, except for Ludhiana, there was dense fog and two youth died in a road accident in Bathinda district due to dense fog. There were no flights from or to Amritsar International Airport, Adampur and Chandigarh International Airport.

Dense fog enveloped Chandigarh and its surroundings this morning, due to lack of visibility, vehicles were seen crawling. After the rain, the fog season is considered beneficial for the wheat crop. Due to the cold winds and no sunshine, the sharp attitude of winter was seen for the first time. The minimum temperature in the city was 11 degrees, Bhiwani, Narnaul and Hisar mercury six degrees, Karnal 10 degrees, Ambala nine degrees respectively.

The wintry winds in Punjab increased and the mercury in Amritsar fell by five degrees, Gurdaspur by seven degrees, Ludhiana and Patiala by 10 degrees, Bathinda by eight degrees, Adampur and Halwara with very low mercury. Delhi's eight degrees, Srinagar's mercury was minus one degree, Jammu was nine degrees.

Snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and rains in the lower areas increased the cold wave. After the snowfall, the mercury of Manali remained below one degree, Shimla three degrees, Nahan eight degrees, Una eight degrees, Kalpa minus three degrees, Mandi three degrees, Dharamsala two degrees, Bhuntar zero degrees, Sundernagar four degrees.
