Farmers in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh will get 60 percent grant for installing solar pumps.

Official sources said here on Wednesday that under the Prime Minister Kisan Energy Security and Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-Kusum), solar power pumps will be provided to farmers at 60 percent subsidy. The plan includes solar pumps ranging from two to five horsepower. It is mandatory for farmers to have boring of four to six inches for profit. Irrigation of crops with electric pumps is proving expensive. In such a situation, the PM-Kusum scheme will prove to be a boon for the farmers who are looking for alternative means of irrigation.

Sources also said that under the scheme, benefits are being given to the farmers on first come first serve basis.
